In addition to his professional duties, Avinash Rachmale is active with a variety of social and cultural organizations, including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) works to promote social, economic, and political equality for Americans of all backgrounds. Its members work through the democratic process to enact positive change at the federal, state, and local levels, helping all people secure their civil rights under the law.

The NAACP is currently focusing on environmental and climate justice, among other key issues. In the United States, facilities spewing toxic output, such as coal plants and incinerators, are disproportionately likely to be located in low-income communities, or communities of color. These neighborhoods are adversely affected by pollution and climate change as a result. The NAACP is working to develop policies that will solve this inequality and advance environmental protections for underserved communities.
